Gynecomastia Correction and Recovery
The Surgical Procedure
Dr. JoAnna Nguyen's gynecomastia correction procedure typically involves two key techniques:
Direct Excision
For dense glandular tissue that liposuction cannot effectively remove, Dr. Nguyen performs direct excision. This involves making a small incision, often around the edge of the areola, to access and carefully remove the glandular tissue. This method ensures a flatter chest contour and addresses the core issue of gynecomastia.
Liposuction
This technique targets the removal of excess fatty tissue from the chest area. Small incisions are made in inconspicuous locations, through which a thin tube (cannula) is inserted to suction out the fat. Liposuction helps to contour the chest and create a smoother, more natural-looking appearance.
Dr. Nguyen has performed numerous gynecomastia correction procedures, helping patients achieve a more sculpted, masculine chest with natural-looking results. With extensive experience in advanced surgical techniques, Dr. Nguyen tailors each procedure to the patient’s unique anatomy—whether through precise glandular tissue removal, expert liposuction sculpting, or nipple correction for a smooth, contoured finish.
Recovery
Proper post-operative care is crucial for a smooth recovery after gynecomastia surgery. Most patients can return home the same day, and initial healing progresses over the first few weeks. Swelling and bruising are common but gradually subside. Follow-up visits with Dr. Nguyen ensure that healing is on track and any concerns are addressed promptly. Recovery after gynecomastia surgery is a gradual process. Here’s what patients can expect:
Healing Timeline: Gynecomastia surgery is an outpatient surgery. The treated areas will feel sore for a few weeks and it is important to wear a compression garment (link to amazon shop) during the first 2 weeks. It is important to minimize activity and not lift more than 5 pounds during the first 2 weeks. If drains are placed, that time frame may be longer. Resume light activities within a few days.
Managing Swelling: Mild swelling and asymmetry are normal initially and improve as the chest heals. Full recovery, including final results, may take a few months as swelling subsides.
Optimizing Results: Patients with significant skin laxity may consider additional treatments, such as skin tightening, to enhance their final outcome.
